I work autobiographically to explore layers of identity. The transience of layers - both physical and metaphorical - is my inspiration, symbolizing my identity as an assemblage of characters, experiences, contexts, and attitudes. I pursue pairs, multiples, and series as a way to explore subtleties, details, and mysteries an artist cannot share in one piece, much like the variety of contrasts and characteristics embodied within an identity.
I draw on portraiture and abstraction to intertwine materials and meaning. Mixed media layers connect memory, history, and imagination. Contrasting shapes and colors establish expression and depth, while repeated mark-making builds structure and movement across the composition. The blended hues of my history, travels, and identity guide my decisions - as the work becomes both a record of what I know and a reflection of who I am becoming.
I continuously explore and embrace reflective practice as part of my artistic process. My work evolves through experimentation, risk-taking, and iteration - mirroring the growth mindset I value as a creator. Each composition becomes a space to test ideas, revise choices, and respond to curiosity, allowing the work to lead me to new materials, methods, and processes still waiting to be discovered.
